Two teams used Zanardi a chassis in the 2009 RoboPong. Evan Batt and Jimmy Simpson (kart #5) returned to the RoboPong as teammates after coming from behind to finish first last year (but were accessed a post race penalty resulting in a second place finish).  Martin Plowman (factory Zanardi and Panther Racing Indy Lights driver) paired with Eric Morrow (RoboPong veteran, WKA National champion and past Formula BMW driver) in kart #9.

Both teams were at or near the fast time in each of the timed practice sessions.  In qualifying, Jimmy Simpson placed their kart on the pole, while Morrow placed their kart in 8th.

An incident and the front of the field on the first lap between Dan Weldon and Brandon Newy caused problems for several karts including Plowman, but it also allowed Evan Batt to pull several karts away from the rest of the field.

Race Start

Evan had a commanding lead in the race until lap 47 when Evan was forced off track while passing slower traffic, and dropped to 4th.  After pitting on lap 51 and a driver change from Evan to Jimmy Simpson we were in second place.  Jimmy began closing the gap on the Vision race team of Carpenter and O'Rourke, and Jimmy passed for the lead on lap 79.  Jimmy pitted on lap 110 and Evan took the wheel. Disaster hit when the brake rotor exploded at the end of his first straight resulting in a crash and DNF!

Plowman/Morrow #9

The Plowman/Morrow kart #9 continued to run in the top 10, and advanced to 4th late in the race.  Their lap times were faster than P2 and P3 and were looking forward to placing second or third when their engine failed!

December 11, Strong Top 10 Run at PRI

Matt Zaskol

Matt Jaskol and Jay Vormwald put together a good run at the PRI All Star Classic. Matt ran in the ultra competitive Karters Division. In the timed practice sessions Matt was in the top 10 despite his time away from karting. Matt improved in qualifying to the 6th position, and was the fastest Parilla Leopard.  Many believe the layout favored the power band of the Vortex and Rotax, but the MMS Leopard proved to be very competitive.  The prefinal was challenging as Matt was involved in contact and lost several positions.  Starting in P13 for the final, Matt was able to advance through the field  but was involved in contact several times that set him back.  Each time he recovered and advanced to finish 8th.
